Board look & sound

The Whole board tab holds the settings that apply to the entire screen — its look, how pages rotate, how a call flashes, the screen itself, and the sound it makes when someone's called.

Colours & type

Start with the shortcut, because it does most of the work in one tap. At the top of the tab: “Set it up for my kind of shop” — “Fills in wording, colours and what the left column is called.”

It offers four choices, and picking one rewrites all three at once.

ButtonWhat it sets
Café or takeaway Collection numbers, preparing and ready.
Clinic Rooms, no names, calm paper colours.
Salon Chairs, first names, warm colours.
Workshop Bays, big numbers, readable across the floor.
For example Press Clinic and the board switches all three at once. Nothing is locked in — everything it sets is still yours to adjust below, and the board's badge simply reads "Changed by you" afterwards.
  • The calm paper colours.
  • The left column relabelled Room.
  • Visitor names turned off.
  • A colour scheme — Dark, Light, Paper, or My colours (your brand).
  • A highlight colour — paints the title bars and the called number.
  • Text size, a font (Clean, Rounded, Classic serif, Bold display), corner style, spacing, and an outline around each section.

The Background control — three layers, in a fixed order

LayerOptions
Colour A plain colour.
Fade None, Dusk, Ember, Ocean or Mint.
Picture An uploaded image.
A picture covers a fade, and a fade covers a colour. The panel tells you which one is actually winning — “Showing: the picture”. If you set a colour and nothing changes on screen, clear the picture or the fade above it rather than trying another colour.

You can also set “Language on the screen” and override the individual words — “Now serving”, “Next up”, “Waiting”, “Missed” and the words beside the QR code.

Overriding a word Anything you type wins over the language setting. Leave a box empty and the screen uses the wording shown in grey.

Change every other word on the screen opens the rest: Just called, Wait time lead-in, People in the queue, Preparing, Ready, Joining is paused, Line not available, No one served yet, No journey chosen, Empty notice, Empty picture or video, Minutes unit, Line closed for the day, Counter closed, Numbers out of date and Priority guest.

Typefaces

Under Colours & type you can choose a Heading font and a Number font separately, and the Number weight — Regular, Bold or Extra heavy — which is how heavy the big numbers are drawn. Heading and Number both start at “Same as the board”.

WhereChoices
Whole-board font Clean, Rounded, Classic serif, Bold display, Friendly humanist, Monospaced, Condensed, Slab serif.
Named typefaces Inter, Lexend, Montserrat, Oswald (condensed), Atkinson Hyperlegible — plus Noto Sans Arabic and IBM Plex Sans Arabic for an Arabic board.

Header, footer and watermark

Under Header, footer and watermark, switch on a Header band across the top and a Footer band along the bottom. They stay on screen whatever the pages show. Each has its own text and colours. An empty header uses your shop name; an empty footer shows the time.

  • Watermark — a faint picture over the whole board, such as your logo mark. Paste a link or upload one, and choose how strong it is.
  • Bars round an odd-shaped screen — when the screen isn't 16:9 the board sits in the middle with bars either side. Pick the bars' colour; Default keeps black (or your brand colour on an ultrawide).
  • Odd-shaped screens that still fill — a screen within a few percent of 16:9 (or 9:16 for a tall board) is filled edge to edge, with the panels stretching a little, instead of getting bars. It starts at Within 15%; Off means bars on any difference.

Your screen's size, and a busy day

Pick your screen's size from the list, or type Exact size, if yours isn't listed — the diagonal in inches. The editor then tells you the most rows and columns it recommends for that screen, because more than that stops being readable from across the room.

  • See it on other screens shows the same board on a small, a large and an upright screen, and how far away each one's numbers can be read — and warns when they would be too small.
  • Test a busy day fills the preview with a full lobby so you can see how the board copes when it is crowded. It is only a preview; nothing is sent to the screen. Press it again to go back (“Busy day: on”).

Looking after the screen

SettingWhat it does
Shift the board slightly now and then Moves the whole board a few pixels every few minutes, so no part of the screen shows the same thing for hours. It helps older plasma and OLED screens. Off until you switch it on.
Dim the screen after hours A web page can't switch a TV off, so this darkens the board between two times you choose (Dim from, Back to normal at, and How dark). Times are the shop's own clock. Off until you switch it on.

Pages & flashing

Turn on "Rotate through pages" and set how many seconds each page shows (2–120); the panel tells you how long a full turn takes.

SettingRangeWhat it does
How long a number flashes when it's called 1 to 20 seconds“Long enough that someone looking at their phone still catches it.” Watch the preview while you drag the slider — it calls a number every few seconds so you can see the flash at the length you've chosen.

Chime or spoken number

Under "When a number is called", pick Play a chime (a short beep, so the screen beeps rather than staying silent), Say the number, or No sound.

ChoiceWhat you can set
Play a chime Ten sounds — Soft bell, Two-tone, Marimba, Ping, Chime (rising), Soft two-note, Bright sparkle, Deep & mellow, Xylophone run and Arcade.
Say the number A voice (Warm, Clear or Neutral), the voice gender (Screen's default, Female or Male — it uses a matching voice installed on the screen, and if there isn't one it adjusts the pitch instead), how fast it speaks, and the phrase itself — “Number {number}, please go to {point}”, with those two filled in for you. If your board announces in more than one language, each call is announced once per language, in the order listed.
No sound The screen only flashes. There is nothing else to set.
You pressWhat happens
Make a sound every time “Off means the screen only flashes.” Decides whether every call is announced or only the flash happens.
Hear it Plays the sound through the browser you're sitting at, so you know what the room will hear before you put it on the wall.
No sound on the TV? Browsers only allow audio after a tap — that's why connecting the screen unlocks the chime as you tap "Connect". If it went silent after a reload, reconnect the screen to re-enable sound.
